Stumbling Block

Matthew 16:23 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” (NIV)

From a human perspective we agree with Peter’s effort to keep Jesus from any harm.  Jesus had a different perspective.  Most often we don’t understand why God allows us to walk through hard trials.  A child dies young, Christians are tortured and so many other things we consider to be terrible.  We can’t see God’s perspective.  We can only trust God will turn all things to the good for His children.  Jesus had to go through horrible torture then wait 3 days before He was resurrected.  Sometimes our wait seems non-ending but God will show us His victory and glory.  Our job is to trust.  Trust is a choice.  Emotions don’t always agree with the trust.  Emotions come and go but the choice of trust can remain steadfast.  As I watch a dear friend go through a most difficult time I pray for peace to come with the trust and eventually the joy of seeing God’s victory through the trial.  Let us not be stumbling block but let us speak words of encouragement as we watch others walking through trials.
