Living Word

2 Timothy 3:16 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, (NIV)

Scripture, the Holy Bible, is the Logos, or the written word of God.  Any one can read the scripture.  There was a time in China they used the Bible to teach English.  That was all the Bible was to them.  There is another language needed to understand the Bible.  This is the Rhema, the spoken word of God through His Holy Spirit.  Without this the Bible is only a book of history.  With the Holy Spirit the Bible becomes the living word of God.  Remember the 2 disciples walking on the road when Jesus came after his resurrection and joined them.  He was explaining or interpreting the written scripture and making it a living scripture which spoke to them and gave them understanding.  When we sit down to read God’s written word we must first ask His Holy Spirit to speak to us through that word.  We can read the same passage at different points of our life and it will say different things to us.  This is why it is the living word.  It is always for the now and always gives us life.  Let us thank God for His written word, for the interpretation of the Holy Spirit, and for His quiet voice within us when we are willing to be quiet and listen.  May we always be listening.
