John 14:16 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— (NIV)

An advocate is defined as “one who pleads another’s cause, who helps another by defending or comforting him.” (Easton’s Bible Dictionary)  The original Greek word is “kietos” which is a verb literally translated “to call,”  The Holy Spirit is within the believers and followers of Jesus to be called on at any time.  He is here to stand beside us, to intercede for us when needed, to advise us when asked.  The question is to we make ourselves available for our advocate?  When we face a situation how long is it before we ask the advice of the Holy Spirit?  He is within us, waiting to be invited to defend, advise and work on our behalf.  Our human nature is stubborn.  We want to “do it ourself.”  This attitude of pride only gets us in trouble.  We need to humble ourselves before the Lord our God and acknowledge we are nothing and can do nothing in and of ourselves.  It is only God, in and through us, that any good or righteous thing can be accomplished.  Let’s not start another day without inviting the Holy Spirit to be active in our hearts, minds and lives.
