Luke 4:18-19 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”  Al (NIV)

This is the first sermon or teaching of Jesus.  This was His job description.  It is also our job description.  What does it say we are to do?  We are to proclaim the good news.  The good news is forgiveness of sins and salvation to eternal life with God through His Son, Jesus.  We are to proclaim this to the poor.  This doesn’t limit to financially poor people.  We are all poor in our lives, minds and hearts without experiencing the love and forgiveness of God.  We are to proclaim liberty to the captives.  The captives are people living in the captivity of sin.  We are to help the blind recover their sight.  Without Jesus in our lives we are blind to God, His grace, His mercy, His salvation, His forgiveness and His love.  We are to set at liberty those who are oppressed.  All sinners are oppressed for joy is not possible without the love and forgiveness of God.  We are to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.  All years living with God’s Holy Spirit in us as believers and followers are years filled with the favor of God.  Are we doing all that is in our job description?
