Not Equal

Philippians 2:6-7 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness. (NIV)

Jesus came to earth to glorify the Father.  He didn’t consider Himself equal with the Father even though He and the Father are One.  We tend to forget we are here not for our glory but here to glorify God.  We forget and our prayers reflect our attitude of “God serve me, God bless me,  God do this for me.”  We forget to ask, “God what do You want to do through me.”  This attitude also shows in our relationship with others.  We put our own desires before those of others.  We want to be served rather than to serve.  We like to think we are putting others and God first but, when we’re really honest with ourselves we see our lack.  It takes the Holy Spirit in us to be willing to trust God enough to put Him first in our lives.  It take the Holy Spirit in us to be willing to put others first and be willing to serve them, not out of pure obedience but out of our love for God and for His glory.  Let us work toward that goal.  Holy Spirit work within us to truly put God first in our minds, hearts and lives, not out of obedience but because of the love He has for us and the love we have for Him.
