Philippians 2:12 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, (NIV)

2 Peter 1:5-8 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love (NIV)

In order to stay healthy, we must work out.  We work out our muscles, not to create them but to build up the muscles we were given at birth.  We work out our heart, not to create it but to increase its capacity to pump our blood throughout our body.  Likewise, we work out our salvation.  We don’t work for our salvation for it is a gift of grace and mercy from God.  But we work out the salvation He has given us through His Holy Spirit.  We work it out through prayer, meditation, Bible study and working our obedience to all He tells us to do in the scriptures.  This takes discipline.  Discipline is a choice.  Once we get into an exercise routine we begin to enjoy it.  Once we develop a routine of working out the salvation God had given us, we will find our joy in Him overflowing in our lives. Read above to see how Peter says to work out our selvation.
