1 Timothy 4:15-16 15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. (NIV)

I love the books of Timothy.  They are so full of sound advice for growing in our relationship to God.  There is a temptation for those who preach, teach and/or write to read the scripture for the purpose of sharing with others.  When we fall into this trap it hampers our own growth.  We are to search, study and digest the scriptures for our own growth.  As we grow and display in our life, our actions and our words others will be drawn to us to read or listen or watch and seek the reason for our growth.  If we don’t eat and digest the Word ourselves we won’t grow.  What we say or write might be very accurate.  God won’t let His word come back void.  Results will happen to others.  We are the ones who lose out.  The matters the above verse refers to are the reading, studying, digesting and obeying the instructions in God’s written word, the Holy Bible.  Let us apply ourselves to the sound advice Paul gave to Timothy.

2 Timothy 2:15-16 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
