Working Out

Philippians 2:12-14 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose (NIV)

Working out our salvation is so often misunderstood.  Our salvation is a gift of grace from God through His Son, Jesus.  But this salvation must continually be worked out to completion, to the time we are completely united with God in heaven for eternity.  The word fear doesn’t mean what we describe as fear in the English language.  A more accurate translation is awe and respect for Who God is.  The trebling refers to our own weakness.  We cannot work out our salvation on our own.  It take the power of God’s Holy Spirit within us to work out to completion our salvation through our Savior and Lord, Jesus.  All of this comes to our choice.  We can choose to remain babes in our salvation or we can choose to grow into maturity and oneness with our Lord.  The choice is ours.  Let’s get to work.  Study the Bible, pray and meditate, digest and work.
