Set Our Face

2 Timothy 1:7 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (NIV)

Some days I just feel lazy.  I’m either tired physically or emotionally and just want to curl up with a good Christian fiction novel for the day.  Sometimes I just don’t want to write, let alone pray about a devotion.  But then I think about the discipline it took for Jesus to head to Jerusalem.  Scripture says He set His face toward Jerusalem.  He knew what lay ahead yet He was determined to obey His Father no matter how He felt or what it took.  How can I not discipline myself to do something so very little in comparison to what My Savior has done for me?  God sets His Holy Spirit in us for many things.  Yes, we feel His love, hear His voice, receive His comfort and hear His directions but He also will give us the strength to discipline ourselves to be obedient to follow His instructions.  We must each hear His word for us as individuals for each and every day.  Then we must be sure to follow through.  We must set our face.   It is only the first few steps that are hard and take discipline and determination.  After those, we are back in sync enjoying the fact that He love us and wants to share His work with and through us.
