Mark 7:5 5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?” (NIV)

There is a big difference between law and tradition.  God, through Moses, gave us 10 laws.  Moses added 613 for the purpose of interpreting the 10 laws God gave us.  Mankind, mostly religious leaders added over 6000 laws of their own.  These 6000 plus are the traditions the Pharisees and teachers of the law were concerned about.  They were in the practice of heaping burdens on others for their own selfish gain and pride.  Jesus came to fulfill the law of God.  The law was we are dead because of sin.  Jesus paid that price.  He told us all the laws of God were summed up in the first 2 commandments.  When we obey these 2 commandments we are following all the laws God gave Moses, for those laws are to help us live in and through love.

Mark 12:29-31 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these

Let us live according to these 2 laws and only follow traditions that are in agreement with these.
