Confirming Wisdom

James 3:17-18 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness (NIV)

When we try to confirm God’s wisdom what do we look for?  It agrees with scripture.  It brings us peace.  It is merciful and righteous.  It has the components of the fruits of God’s Holy Spirit.  When we don’t have peace in the answer we think we hear from God we need to recheck our hearing.  It might just be the wrong timing.  Rushing ahead of God doesn’t work out for good.  We seldom know the entire problem or the co-ordination needed for the solution.  God is all-knowing.  His wisdom is far beyond our ability to fully understand.  We should keep listening until we have peace.  That doesn’t mean the answer will be easy.  That doesn’t mean we might be nervous about carrying out the answer.  It means we have peace in our spirit that we have heard and God is faithful to work it out through our obedience.

It may be we don’t want to really let go of our own self-interest desire.  Let us be sure when we ask and listen to God, we sincerely want to hear and obey Him in loving trust.
