Running the Race

2 Timothy 4:7 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (NIV)

To run a race, we must prepare for it.  Racers spend a good deal of their time in training.  They train regardless of weather.  They train when they would rather do something else.  They train because they have a goal they most definitely want to achieve.  They know the only way to achieve that goal is to train.  We, as believers and followers of Jesus are also in a race.  We’re in a race to harvest believers before Jesus returns.  But it takes training to win that race.  Our training consists of our knowledge of the written Word of God, the Holy Bible, and how to apply that word to our own life.  As we learn this, we gradually begin to show God through our words and actions.  As we gradually show God through our lives, we gradually grow in faith and boldness to share this with others.  A racer doesn’t train for a 5-mile race before they can run a 2-mile race.  We can’t win people we don’t know until we win those in our own family.  The race begins in the home front.  When we are not in condition for the race in our own homes, there is no way we are in condition for other places.  Let us train to run the race all the way to the end.
