God’s Timin

Genesis 15:4 4 Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” (NIV)

Genesis 16:2 2 so she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”
Abram agreed to what Sarai said. (NIV)

God gave a promise to Abram and Sarai.  They became impatient and allowed doubt to enter.  They decided they had to take matters into their own hands.  They went ahead of God’s timing.  God has a plan for each of us.  He never tells us to do anything that isn’t for His glory and for our best.  But what He has is also in His timing, not ours.  We are very impatient people.  That is why God usually waits to give us instructions because He knows we’ll run ahead with it and do it in our way and our own time.  When we jump ahead of God we do it in our own strength rather than through the strength of God.  Things don’t turn out right then.  We need to learn to wait on God.  It’s our “I want it now.” that gets us into debt and encourages some to steal.  Waiting is hard.  What do we do when we have to wait?  We wait with thanksgiving knowing God is in control and He had the right time for each thing that is to occur in this world.  Next time we start to do something or even open our mouth about something, check with God first.  We need to ask Him 2 questions: Is this the right thing to do or say?  Is this the right time to do it or say it?  Let us learn to live in God’s way and God’s timing.
