Weeping

Jeremiah 31:15 15 This is what the Lord says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.” (NIV)

Matthew 2:16-18 16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled.  (NIV)

It’s hard for us to understand why God allowed all those innocent babies to be murdered.  Our finite minds cannot comprehend God’s wisdom.  God has given mankind the freedom of choice.  Mankind can choose to be full of evil or choose to follow God.  We know God has the power to prevent evil in this world yet, in His wisdom, He allows mankind to choose his own way.  Joseph knew to listen to his dreams and left before Harold had time to react.  There are times God warns us about upcoming evil.  He warns us through His written Word, the Holy Bible, and through the inner voice of His Holy Spirit.  Sometimes we listen and evade evil.  Sometimes we don’t.  The choice is ours.  One thing we can know.  God brings all those innocent babies to Himself and will do the same for all who choose to walk with Him.  Our question is do we heed the warnings in the Bible and do we listen to the quiet, inner voice?   I know I have been protected from possible harm several times by heeding the warning of that inner voice.  Let us keep our listening ears open. Let us comfort those who have been hit by tragedy. Weeping is just for a time.  Joy comes to us throughout all eternity.
