Isaiah 40:3 3 A voice of one calling:  “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.  (NV)

Luke 3:3-4 3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.  (NIV)

John the Baptizer was a half cousin of Jesus.  Mary and John’s mother, Elizabeth were cousins.  We don’t know how often or if they ever go together as children for traveling was not very easy in those days.  John knew he was called to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah.  When Jesus approached him to be baptized, John recognized Him as the Messiah.  John didn’t seek to have fame and renown over Jesus.  John realized Jesus was the anointed one.  We are also called to prepared the way for Jesus.  We are to prepare the hearts of the unbelievers.  We do  this by our actions and our words.  We do this by sharing the love of God with all we meet.  We don’t sit in judgement of the life styles of others.  God is the only judge.  We accept them as people created by God and hurting to be loved.  We show them God’s love.  We can’t prepare the way for others if our own heart, mind and life aren’t prepared.  Jesus is returning.  Are we ready for Him to return in the next few minutes?
