Elijah

Malachi 4:5-6 5 “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”  (NIV)

Matthew 11:13-14 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.  (NIV)

John the Baptizer was more than a baptizer.  He was the prophet, Elijah, preparing hearts and minds to accept Jesus, the Messiah.  The Jews, today, continue to set an empty place at their Passover table for Elijah to come for they have had their eyes and ears blinded to the fulfillment of that prophecy.  Quite often our eyes and ears are blinded to various prophecies being already fulfilled or in the act of being fulfilled.  Sometimes it is because we don’t know the prophecies.  Sometimes it is because we misunderstand what the prophecies means.  Sometimes it is because we are to involved in our own selves we just fail to see outside of our selves.  As we read the written Word of God, let us open our minds up to the Hoy Spirit for understanding.  Seeing how prophecies have been and are continuing to be fulfilled is faith building.
