Forsaken by God

Psalms 22:1 1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?  Why are You so far from my deliverance
and from my words of groaning? (NIV)

Matthew 27:46 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ Elí, Elí, lemá sabachtháni?” that is, “ My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

We wonder how a God of love could forsake His Son when His Son is suffering while being obedient to His Father.  God, by His very nature, cannot stand in the presence of Sin.  When Jesus was taking on the sin of all of us for all eternity, God the Father had to turn away from the sin.  There is no way any of us can imagine the pain the Father and the Son were experiencing.  This is the only time they were separated from each other.  Because of the blood of Jesus covering those who choose to believe in and follow Him, God sees us in the righteousness of His Son rather than our sin.  We must be sure to listen to the Holy Spirit as He reminds us of our sins and take those sins immediately to the cross of Jesus, confessing them and receiving His forgiveness and the washing away of those sins with His shed blood.
