Be Salty

Matthew 5:13 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. (NIV)

Salt is a very important element.  Our bodies have salt.  Without salt we would die.  Salt is used as a preservative.  It is also used as a flavor enhancer.  It can also be used to scrub a pot or in water to gargle for a sore throat.  In Leviticus 2:13, we read, “Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.”  All offerings, grain and meat, were to be salted before offered to God.  We are an offering to God.  We are also to cleanse, enhance and preserve others on the earth for the glory of God.  We do this through our words and our actions.  Do our words enhance people, giving them the loving flavor of God?  Are we salty enough to preserve the statutes of God in our actions?  Let us be sure there is plenty of salt in our shaker and shake it every where we go with everyone who passes our way.
