Matthew 27:46 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). (NIV)

This verse makes we cry.  Jesus had never been separated from His Father.  Even walking on this earth, He was always aware of the Father’s presence with Him.  But God, the Father cannot be in the presence of sin because of His very nature.  While Jesus was taking on our sins, God, the Father, had to look away.  Now that Jesus has taken away our sins, when God, the Father looks at us, He sees the righteousness of His Son and, because of His Son, Jesus, God, the Father is always present with us through His Holy Spirit.  As we approach Good Friday (Good because of what Jesus and the Father did for us) let us reflect on the extremely high cost to both the Father and the Son.
