Compassion for Others

John 19:26 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” (NIV)

These words spoken by Jesus as He was in terrible agony on the cross amaze me.  When I am in pain (and never the kind of pain Jesus experienced), my thoughts are totally on myself.  Jesus, in spite of His pain, had compassion for His mother.  What an example we have to follow.  We are to have compassion for those around us.  We are born into sin, the sin of me, me, me.  Jesus withstood the cross for us, us, us.  Let’s ask the Holy Spirit within us to help us look up and out more than in and down.
