Matthew 5:16 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (NIV)

First, we must define what is meant by “our light.”  Our light is the Holy Spirit Who dwells in each and every follower of Jesus.  So, our light is not actually ours but the light of the Holy Spirit living in us.  Next we must understand what is meant by shining so other can see our good deeds.  This doesn’t mean to broadcast how good our deeds are or how many good deeds we do.  It means to live an open and loving life by example and by our words.  Our words and our actions must agree.  Through our words and actions others will see the Light of the Holy Spirit in us (as long as our words and actions are in agreement with the Scripture).  This will lead them to questions about our life and open the door to conversation about what God the Father and God the Son have done for us.  We must consider, how much light are we allowing to shine through our words and actions.
