1 Thessalonians 5:11 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (NIV)

Some translations use the word “comfort” instead of “encourage.”  Either way we have the same result.  When someone is discouraged, depressed or grieved, they need building up, comfort encouraging.  So often we sit in judgment because someone responds to something differently than we would.  We set standards on how someone should react, especially emotionally.  Each one of us is different with different strengths and weaknesses.  We each have different ways of expressing things.  We each have different time schedules.  Instead of judging with our own expectations, we need to follow the scripture and build one another up.  We do this through prayer, through helps and through words.  When a judgment thought comes up within us we must expel it and ask the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom on how to encourage the person.  The world does enough tearing down.  Let us be in the business of building up.
