1 Kings 19:11-12 11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper (NIV)

So often we listen for the voice of God when things are really stormy in our lives.  Elijah tried to hear God through the storm, wind, earthquake but didn’t hear Him.  It was in the quiet that he heard the gentle whisper of God.  We need to learn to look and listen for God in the times of quiet.  God doesn’t shout.  He whispers to His children.  It’s only after we learn to hear His whisper in the quiet that we can hear Him when we are walking though the fire of tribulation.  God wants to hear us and for us to hear Him all the time, not just when we have a problem.  Let us be sure we can hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit within us throughout our days, whether in quiet or storm.
