Leaving the Past

Isaiah 43:18-19 8 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (NIV)

There are time I remember things I did or said that were totally opposite of God’s love.  These things have been confessed and forgiven by God but, for many years, I would remain feeling guilty and mad at myself for doing or saying those things.  When we keep beating ourselves over past sins which we’ve confessed to God and asked for forgiveness, we are saying we really don’t believe God does what He said He would always do.  He said if we would confess our sins He would forgive them.  Our confessed and forgiven sins are as far away from us as east is from the west.  Confessing and receiving God’s forgiveness must be followed with our forgiving ourselves.  What is past is past.  Each day is a new day and God continually does new things in and through us.  Let us learn to move on with the flow of the Holy Spirit in the freedom of the forgiveness God gives.
