Nurturing Faith

Jude 1:3 3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. (NIV)

Faith was entrusted to us by Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross.  The question is are we staying true to that trust?  Faith is a choice, not an emotion.  We either to choose to have faith and believe or we choose not to have faith and to not believe.  We all have a measure of faith. When we’re driving down a road we choose to have faith that the cars around us will stay in their lanes.  When we sit in a chair we choose to have faith the chair will hold us.  Because of the testimony of the Bible and the testimony of those who have gone before us, we choose to believe Jesus walked on this earth to show us God’ love, died for our sins and rose that we would have eternal life.  Because we have chosen this, we believe God’s words to be true.  Because we believe God’s words to be true, we choose to have faith in the love and power of God.  As we experience more and more of God’s love and power, our faith grows.  Impatience stunts our faith.  Our sin nature of wanting what we want how we want it and when we want it stunts our faith.  To nurture our faith we must put the words of God deep into our minds and hearts and we must communicate with God throughout our days.  Let us be sure to nurture our knowledge of God and His character so the choice of faith will become more consistent and easier.
