Clean Heart

Isaiah 64:6 6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

We go to church every week or more often.  We visit the sick and those in prison.  We tithe.  We give to the poor.  We testify to the goodness of God.  We think we’re so good.  But we’re not.  We’re sinners.  We sin throughout our days.  Just because we don’t do what we consider the big sins (adultery, murder, theft, etc.) doesn’t mean we aren’t sinning.  Telling what we like to call a “white lie” in order not to hurt someone’s feeling or to make us look better is just as much as a sin in God’s eyes as what we call the big ones.  Sin is anything, thought or action or lack of action, that separates us from God.  Anything not done in pure love separates us from God for God is Love.  We can’t come to God in prayer if our hearts aren’t clean.  We must daily acknowledge to ourselves our sins, confess them to God and ask and receive His forgiveness.  Then we must ask His Holy Spirit within us to help us turn from those “little sins” and walk with purer hearts.  As we learn to do this we will gradually recognize what we call “little sins” quicker and be able to confess them immediately rather than waiting for the end of the day.  Let us learn to keep a clean heart.
