Through God’s Eyes

Psalms 123:1 1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. (NIV)

There are several songs about eyes open to see God.  One I like to sing a lot has the words, “Open my eyes, Lord.  I want to see You…”  The other day I stumbled across a large chorus of acappella (voices without instruments) singers on YouTube.  As I watched and listened, I started really looking at their faces.  I learned 2 things.  They were singing as a collective group of one.  No one was trying to stand out as a soloist.  We are the bride of Christ.  Collectively we are One; one in Him and one in each other (as Jesus prayed for us in the garden).  We continually strive to shine as individuals.  This hinders the unit of the Body of Christ.  The other thing I learned was how to look with the eyes of God.  As I looked at their faces I could see in many of them how true their love for God is.  When God looks at us, He looks to see our love for Him.  The color of our skin, the shape of our nose, the style of our hair – none of these matter.  What counts is our love within us pouring out of us to reach God.  This also transferred in me as my own love for those who were singing about their love for God.  I felt unified in love with them and was soon singing with them as one in them and in Christ Jesus.  As we look at one another, let’s remember we are one in Christ and reach out in love to each other.
