Luke 12:49-50 49 “I came to pour out fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already ablaze! But I have an immersion to endure, and how distressed I am until it is finished! (Tree of Life Version)
The Holy Spirit came down as flaming tongues of fire. The fire couldn’t be ablaze while Jesus was physically present on this earth. He had to endure the horrific pain of the cross and take on our sins before the Holy Spirit could be released to those who accept Jesus into their hearts, minds and lives and strive to follow Him in obedience and ministry. It’s evident Jesus wasn’t looking forward to the pain He must endure but He also know that would be temporary. The pain and penalty of sin would be paid once and for all time and all believers. Sin’s penalty would be finished. This doesn’t mean we will no longer sin. It does mean when we confess our sins we will immediately be forgiven and the sin forgotten. Let us remember the cost to Jesus and always thank Him after we confess. Let us do our part to spread the fire of the Holy Spirit on this earth.
