Confess and Repent

Acts 3:19 19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, (NIV)

So many who confess their sins turn right back to repeat the same sins.  They expect God to continually forgive them even though they continue in the same sins.  Confession must be followed by repentance.  To repent means to turn away; to not repeat.  Unless we repent we are not forgiven.  The two go hand in hand.  We must confess first so we know what we must repent.  When we are aware of our sin we then have the knowledge of staying away from the temptation of repeating it.  If our sin is gossip, we stay away from those who gossip.  If our sin is drunkenness, we stay away from places that have alcohol.  The responsibility to repent is ours.  Repentance is a choice.  Let us remember to always follow confession with repentance.
