Light Burden

Matthew 11:30 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV)

We get confused by this statement.  Our effort to walk with God doesn’t seem easy.  But this word is misunderstood.  In the Greek the word means custom made.  This means God has made a specific yoke for each one of us.  Our yoke that yokes us to Jesus is custom made for us.  It is made or us to be able to work along side and with Jesus and all His power and wisdom.  Our problem is we keep pulling against the yoke.  We have preconceived ideas of how God wants to flow through us.  We strive to undertake the ministry (yoke) designed for someone else.  Oxen are yoked together the make their work easier.  They learn to move at the same speed.  We tend to pull ahead or lag behind.  Being yoked to Jesus is a learning process.  Through prayer, meditation, and Bible study we learn to flow with Jesus.  He had given us His Holy Spirit to help, encourage and guide us.  Let us learn to remain in the distinctive yoke He has for us.  When we allow our distinctive yoke to keep us ever beside and with Jesus our burden is indeed easy and light.
