Love is Action

John 15:16-17 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other (NIV)

We are on this earth to bear fruit.  Bear fruit that will last.  The only fruit that will last is the love of God.  We bear this fruit through loving others.  This is our mission on this earth.  Love is a verb of action.  Just saying we love doesn’t work.  We must show we love through serving others as we serve God.  We must give up the selfish idea our time, our possessions and our desires are more important than those of others.  We are of no more value and importance than anyone else.  I like to people watch.  I use to watch with a critical eye.  I would wonder how they let themselves get in such bad shape, why the dressed the way the did and on and on.  Now, God is teaching me to look at them as He does.  He sees people He loves very much.  He put action on His love by sacrificing His Son for all people.  As I look now, I pray for the people I see.  I talk to God about the needs I see in them.  I offer myself to God to be used by Him.  Occasionally He gives me words to speak to a stranger.  Sometimes He moves me to give them some money.  It is a matter of being open to God and hearing Him on how to convey His love to those around us.  Let us be listeners and then doers.  Let us bear fruit through the action of love.
