Roots

Matthew 13:7 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. (NIV)

Because we travel often, our yard is gravel.  We don’t want to have the responsibility of keeping grass mowed.  Our neighbors have grass and, when they mow, grass seed comes into our gravel and springs to life.  We can spray it with weed killer and it’ll turn brown but it is still in our grave.  We must pull it out by the roots.  The same is true with the sin in our lives.  Recognizing it, confessing it, receiving forgiveness for it is like spraying it with weed killer but the roots are still there.  We must pull the root of the sin out of our hearts and minds.  We do this through the Holy Spirit and the renewing of our minds.  We renew our minds through careful study of the Scriptures, meditation and application of what we read to the thoughts and actions of our lives.  Confession without repentance and pulling out the roots does nothing.  Let us be sure we go after all the roots of our various sins.
