Characteristics of Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.8 Love never fails (NIV)

In order for the prayer of yesterday to be answered in us we must have knowledge of what love is.  For several years a nightly thing for me was to put my name in the place of the word “love.”  This helped me see the areas where love wasn’t abounding in my life.  I need a refresher from time to time to make sure I stay open to being love.  It is not for me to put anyone else’s’ name in place of love.  I am responsible for doing the loving, for being a personification of love – the characteristics of what love is.  This is something that must be worked at.  It doesn’t come automatically.  God has placed in each believer and follower of His Son, Jesus, the Holy Spirit to help us learn and the grow into acting and being love because love – all these characteristics of love, were visibly displayed through Jesus as He walked and talked on this earth.  Only 8 short verses to memorize and make part of our thinking and living.
