Put It On

Ephesians 6:13 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (NIV)

The next word we read in this verse is “put.” Put is a verb, a word of action.  We don’t automatically wear the armor of God.  It is up to us to PUT it on ourselves.  God provides it for us but we are the ones who must put it on and wear it.  We must be careful to put on each and every piece of it.  Armor is not complete if only partial.  We must put it on each and every day.  This is not automatic.  This takes thought and effort.  This takes some time.  The amount of time depends on our experience at putting the armor of God on ourselves.  We don’t sleep in the armor so this is why we must put it on each day.  I’ve learned the days I forget to put on the armor I am left to defend myself from temptations in my own strength.  This leads to failure because in my flesh I am unable to resist the temptations that entice me.  Let’s not wait until we find ourselves in a struggle.  Let’s learn to start each and every day not only dressing for our various tasks but dressing by putting on the armor of God so we can stand firm for the glory of God.
