Helmet and Sword

Ephesians 6:17 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (NIV)

A helmet protects our hear, our brain. What we put into our brains comes through our eyes and our ears.  Our brain picks up and stores all we hear and see.  Our brain is like a microwave tower receiver.  It picks up all the microwaves.  Someone writes a program for the microwave to determine what waves will be used and what ones ignored.  Sometimes we have no choice as to what we hear and see.  We hear and see all that is around us.  But we have a choice of which of the words and sights we will allow to become a active part in our brain and which ones we will push away from our conscious thoughts.  For this we need the helmet of salvation along with the sword of the Spirit.  Hear we find the written word of God, again.  The helmet is the knowledge that Jesus died once and for all for all mankind’s sins.  When we accept that fact and invite Jesus into our hearts, minds and lives, that salvation is a fact that can cover our heads, our brains, with the assurance that we are God’s children and, as His children He will equip us with all we need to walk through life in the sinful atmosphere of this earth.  That’s why He saw to it that people who were willing to listen to Him and record what He said would record the words that are in our Holy Bible.  As with all the parts of God’s armor, we must pick up the sword of the Spirit each and every day.  To pick up the sword, we must pick up our Holy Bible each and every day, read, study and meditate on the words in that wonderful instructional and encouraging collection of books and be able to wield that sword.
