Ephesians 6:18 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (NIV)

Praying in the Spirit does include praying in our spiritual prayer language, also know as tongues, but it also means asking the Holy Spirit within us to give us the wisdom and words to pray in our own native language.  Praying in the Spirit includes listening to God as well and in at least equal proportion to our talking to Him.  We are to talk with Him on all occasions.  Some of our conversations will be long.  Some will be intercessory in nature (praying for others).  Some will be instant needs brought before His throne of grace and some will be spontaneous words of thanks and praise.  God is more concerned that we talk with Him and listen to Him than He is what and how we are praying.  Praying, conversations with God, are for increasing the love and intimate relationship between Father and child.  God already knows what we need, what we want and who and what else gives us concern.  What He wants is for us to talk about it together.  The more we get to know God, the more often we will talk with Him.  So let us stay always on the alert – the alert of God’s presence with us and His desire to talk with us.
