By God’s Spirit

Zechariah 4:6 6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. (NIV)

God deserves all the glory because He created and is in charge of all things.  Moses learned this the hard way.  When in the wilderness and they were out of water, God told Moses to strike the rock so water would gush out (the rocks in that desert hold water).  God was allowing Moses to get the glory to ensure the respect he needed as the leader of the Hebrews.  Later on, when water was again needed, God told Moses to speak to the rock.  That was for God to get the glory to encourage faith from the Hebrews.  Moses was tired and angry at the situation and, instead of speaking to the rock as God instructed, Moses hit the rock.  Because of that act Moses never got to the Promised Land.  So often we wonder why we don’t succeed at something.  If we check our motives, how we are trying to look good, competent, powerful to others and claim the glory for ourselves, we have the answer.  We like to do things by might and by power.  God is God.  He is in charge and expects, actually demands to be obeyed.  This takes trust and faith.  Trust and faith grow by experience.  God has reasons for what He does. Let’s choose to trust and obey even without understanding.
