Wet Feet

Exodus 14:21 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, (NIV)

Joshua 3:8 8 Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’” (NIV)

Notice the difference in God’s instructions for parting the waters so the Hebrews could cross over on dry land.  The first time, Moses was in the process of establishing leadership for the Hebrews to follow him, so God used Moses for them to see.  The second time, to cross into the land of promise, God wanted the people to learn to look to Him for themselves.  They had to trust Him enough to go into the water before the water was held back.  They actually had to get their feet wet.  Even today there are many times we must get our feet wet as an act of faith and trust before we see the work of God in our lives.  Many miss it because they don’t want to get their feet wet.  They run from any trials as fast as they can.  They aren’t choosing to trust God, to take Him at His word.  Let us remember God often requires us to take the first step before He shows us where to place our other foot.
