Be Polite

1 Peter 3:8 8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. (NIV)

This is a command for politeness.  We see it every day.  We see rudeness in driving, in people standing in line, in the political arena, in news reporter questions; basically, we see rudeness everywhere.  But before we condemn the rudeness, we see we must look at our own behavior.  How many times have we not let someone into our lane of traffic/   What about in line lines at the check-out?  For most of us we aren’t intentionally rude.  We are distracted, stressed, under pressure and have too much to do.  Our minds are inward, not outward.  We quite often don’t even comprehend the people around us.  This is not how God wants us to behave.  HE wants us to be sympathetic and loving.  He wants us not to think we are do much better, important or worthier than others.  He wants us to be kind and loving to all those around us.  Especially through the holiday season (yet all 365 days of the year) let us make a conscious effort to follow the instructions in this verse.  Let us be polite, compassionate and sympathetic in the love of God for each and every person on this earth.
