Promises Fulfilled

Hebrews 6:17 17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. (NIV)

We tend to view things in the time space of our physical life on this earth.  God views things through eternity.  In Hebrews 6:14 we read, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” It continues in verse 15, And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.  Abraham was given one son, Isaac.  God promised him many descendants.  The promise, not realized by Abraham during his physical life on this earth was fulfilled through Isaac and his descendants.  So often we see the fulfillments of promises of God seem to take several generations to completely come about.  This is because of our “tunnel vision.”  We see things only in relation to our physical life span on this earth.  We have a hard time relating to eternity for we are consumed in this material world.  We like to think everything revolves around us, personally.  Each of us are an important part in God’s overall plan.  We each have a part to play in the fulfillment of God’s promises and purpose.  We need to totally give ourselves and our vision to God and ask His Holy Spirit to enable us to have faith like Abraham and consider God’s promises as complete even when we only see the very beginning of their fulfillment.
