Lying Lips

Isaiah 59:1-3 1 Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. 3 For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken falsely,
and your tongue mutters wicked things (NIV)

Proverbs 6:16-19 16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community (NIV)

So many of us say we want to be accountable for what we say and do but we remain uncorrectable.  Being accountable doesn’t serve us very well if we refuse to correct what we say or do.  God is truth.  By His very nature He cannot relate with lies.  Lies separate us from God.  We like to lie.  We consider it as expounding or exaggerating the truth or keeping from hurting someone else’s feelings or embarrassing ourselves by admitting the truth but, a lie is a lie.  Most of the sins we commit begin with what comes out of our mouth.  We end up doing what we say.  One very common lie most of us make is saying we will pray for or about someone.  Quite often we say we will pray but quickly dismiss it.  We repeat lies we hear without going to the source to find the truth.  Lies destroy lives.  Lies shed innocent blood.  Let us learn to speak only the truth.  Let us not embellish what we say, especially when we share prayer requests.  God knows what each one needs more than we do.  We don’t need to share details of others in our prayer requests.  We can lift others up before the throne of God without telling, in prayer, others all the details of another.  Let us be sure we don’t cause God to hide His face from us.  We choose what our lips say.  Let them only speak truth wrapped in love.
