Intellects or Service

1 Peter 4:7-11 7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (NIV)

We love to feed our intellect.  We like to be the ones who have the answers to questions.  When we don’t really know the answer, we like to think we do and make one up.  As in the days right after Jesus returned to His throne in heaven, every generation thinks they are in the last days.  Many delve deeply into Daniel and Revelation and think they have the correct interpretation.  Some even go as far as presuming a date and time of Jesus’ return.  Peter tells us how we should behave during the last days.  As we read it, we can’t find anything that says we should know or guess the exact time.  When Jesus was walking this earth He said He didn’t even know, only the Father knows.  We have our hands full just doing what Peter says we should be doing.  We are to pray – pray for those who have yet to come into God’s family through His Son, Jesus.  We are to love each other deeply which means we are to keep a heart of forgiveness rather than wearing our feelings on our sleeves.  Gifts we receive are for our service to God and those He sends our way.  We are to be faithful stewards – not only steward of money but stewards of all we have and all the capabilities God give us.  It is through the glory of God that His power prevails in this world.
