Lifted Hands

Psalms 63:4 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. (NIV)

Why the lifting of our hands?  When we raise our hands, lifting them up into the air, we are exposing ourselves; we are leaving ourselves open.  So often we see people with their arms folded tightly in front of them.  This is a form of protection.  They don’t want themselves exposed to others.  When we praise the Lord, or God, we want to praise Him with our entire being.  We don’t want to close any part of us to God, the One Who made us and loves us. Raising our hands opens us up to God.  It is a sign of compete surrender and trust.  The only true praises come from a completely surrender heart and mind.  Raised hands show a complete trust in the love of our God.  If you are one who never raises your hands, try it in the privacy of your own home when you are in your daily worship time with God.  Learn to open up your entire being to Him as you sing and/or speak your praises to Him.  Before long, you will find a deep need and desire to be totally free and open in your praise to God.  For, as we praise, we open ourselves to receiving more of His love for and in us.  Let us lift our hands in praise to our God each and every day.
