As Much As

John 13:34 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (NIV)

Most all of us recognize we are to love one another.  However, the first word in the second sentence is all important.  We are to love one another AS Jesus loves us.  How much does Jesus love us?  Enough to suffer a terrible death on the cross for us.  Though Jesus’ love for us involved giving His life for us, there is more to loving as He loves than physical dying for another.  We are, by nature, very selfish people.  We are selfish with our finances and with our time.  Are we loving one another as much as Jesus loves us with our time, our talents, our finances and/or any other possessions we might have?  With many of us our time is our most valued possession.  Are we willing to show God our love for Him by giving what we consider to be our time but it actually belongs to God, to others?  Yes, we need some time for ourselves but, if God is really in control of our lives, can’t we believe He will be in control of our time if we really return it to Him?  Let us be willing to learn to love others AS God loves us.  First we must be willing to love God as He loves us.  Then the Holy Spirit within us will enable us to love others as well.
