The Facts

Luke 5:5 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (NIV)

The facts were there were no fish in the area.  Peter and his partners had fished the area all night without landing one single fish.  Yet, because Jesus told him to put down his net, Peter did so without question even though the facts told him it was useless.  Peter obeyed the voice of Jesus immediately.  How often do we listen to the facts as we know them rather than to the Word of God.  We look at the facts and see the impossible forgetting to trust that with God all is possible.  We wrestle with the facts verses God’s word and too often we let the facts speak louder than God’s word.  Let us pray to be more like Peter and, not only listen to God’s word but to trust Him and obey immediately.  As Peter was blessed with the largest haul of fish he had ever seen, we, too, will be blessed with our obedience to God and seeing His word come about in our time and space.
