Blessed to Give

Genesis 12:2 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, you will be a blessing. (NIV)

There is a lot of teaching going around about giving so you will get back.  It comes from a misunderstanding of Luke 6:38  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” God doesn’t want us to give out of a desire to get.  He wants us to get out of a desire to give.  But, to do this we must know how to be good stewards.  This applies to our entire life, not just our finances.  If we are in debt, we are not good stewards of our finances.  If we have a lot of garbage, we are not good stewards of the food we buy.  If we need a storage shed for all of our possessions, we are not good stewards of our material goods.  God blesses those who know how to be good stewards.  He does that because He knows if we know how to be good stewards, He can trust us with the blessings because we will know how to share the blessings with those who need them.  Giving involves more than money.  We give of our talents, our time, our food and our material blessings.  It isn’t something we have to do.  It is something we enjoy doing because it is a joy to share the love God gives us with others.  The more we share, the more room we have to receive.  Let be good stewards with all God blesses us and give in joyful wisdom out of an abundance of love for God.
