Elijah’s Focus

1 Kings 18:44 44 The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’” (NIV)

There are parts of the Old Testament that are hard for me to read and I must discipline myself to read through them.  Those are the parts where nations rise against nations.  But there are other parts I really enjoy and am inspired.  One is the life of Elijah.  I like how he made it so impossible in our estimation for God to burn up his sacrifice by dousing it with water.  God sent fire and consumed even the stones.  I also like the faith he had.  He sat and waited in faith for God to send the promised rain.  It took 7 times.  He remained waiting in faith and expecting the rain to come.  As soon as there was a very small cloud, Elijah considered it done.  It hadn’t rained yet but Elijah didn’t need the proof.  Just the small cloud was enough for Elijah to know God’s timing was close.  Our problem is we look more at the problem than we look for the promise of the coming answer.  Let us improve our focus as the focus of Elijah.
