Hebrews 12:1 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, (NIV)

Have you noticed what runners wear, or don’t wear, when they are running a race?  They don’t have anything in their pockets, in their hands, around their waist or necks.  They wear as little as possible.  They don’t want anything to slow them down.  In life, we carry a lot of baggage.  Some of our baggage includes, hurts from the past, unforgiveness, doubts, fear and on and on.  These things slow down our living a life of faith.  These things play against faith in God, in His provision, in His love for us, in His fulfillment of promises for us.  To run the race of a life of faith with perseverance, we must lay down these burdens of excel baggage at the cross of Jesus.  We lay them down by releasing them in faith to God and refusing to pick the up again.  We’ve probably done this several times but always end up picking the up due to a memory or a moment of doubt.  Instead of picking them back up, check the moment of doubt of the recurring memory with one of God’s words recorded for us in the Holy Bible.  Reading, meditating and reciting scripture does wonders for erasing doubt.  Let us learn to run the race with perseverance and faith and cast all excess baggage of doubt out of our hearts and minds.
