The Director

Matthew 10:19-20 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time, you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. (NIV)

My nephew was on a mission trip.  He is good at updating his prayer partners daily.  I got this message he messed up.  He had prepared notes on what he was to preach at the next village.  He packed the Bibles for the villagers and for the pastors and all the other things he was taking to them but he left his notes behind.  This put him in the place he had to be sure to listen to the Holy Spirit and speak the words God had for him to share.  So often we have preconceived ideas on what needs to be said.  But we can’t really know the needs of others nor can we know what is needed only a short time ahead of where we are.  God knows all.  He has guaranteed, if we will just listen, He will tell us what to say when it’s time to speak.  How wonderful and stress free it is to be the vessel and not the director.  My nephew said it was really anointed.  This doesn’t mean we need not study the Bible.  It means, after we’ve studied, we are to allow God to do the directing.
