A New Song

Psalms 40:3 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. (NIV)
There was a time when God had me write a new psalm from my own heart every day.  A psalm is a prayer.  It doesn’t have to rhyme.  It doesn’t have to be set to music.  Below is an example of one of the psalms I wrote.  I urge you to try it.  It might be only a few lines at first but it is very freeing and fulfilling.  I helps us see where we are in our intimacy with God.

Thank You that You always answer me when I call to you

You are righteous but I don’t always hear Your answers

Forgive my faulty or distracted hearing

Have mercy on me and continue to hear my prayers.

How long will this country live in shame?

How long before You lose Your Holy Spirit in this land?

Help us realize You have set us apart for You and Your use and glory.

I know You hear this.

Make Your power known to us

When we are in our beds

Search our hearts and keep us silent

Help us offer the sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving

And deepen our trust in You.

Many are concerned about the future of this country

Let Your Light shine on us.

Fill us with Your joy

And continue to provide for us.

Give us Your peace as we sleep

For only You, Lord

Have the power to keep us safe.
